With mom back in 'Bama, top five wide receiver prospect Justyn Ross ready for next step in his recruitment

PHENIX CITY, Ala. -- Arguably the top wide receiver prospect in the country, Justyn Ross has awaited this time of year for his mother to return home from her deployment. Now that she is stateside, his recruitment will accelerate.

One of the top wide receiver prospects in America, Justyn Ross had been very clear to anyone who would listen in regards to his recruitment.

No major moves would be made until his mother, Charay Franklin, returned from her National Guard deployment in Kuwait. She was originally scheduled to return this coming weekend, but came early and just in time for Mother's Day.

Ross released a top 11 of AlabamaAuburnClemsonFloridaFlorida StateLSUMiami (Fl)Ole MissMississippi StateOhio State and USC. The Phenix City (Ala.) Central standout told Scout each one of those programs still have a shot at his verbal commitment.

"I dropped my top 11 about a month ago and I'm feeling those schools, only those schools, right now," he said. "All 11 has a shot at me. I will break it down by me being comfortable, different things like that."

Now, Ross can be accompanied by Franklin as he sorts through the rest of the process.

"My mom is a big part of my recruitment," he said before her return. "I'm taking my time until my mom comes."

Without any visits scheduled, the blue-chip wide receiver is more concerned with his Red Devil teammates than his recruitment this spring. He will be expected to lead a young and talented roster within Alabama's highest classification.

"I love my team, you saw it right here today, we enjoy everything that we do," Ross said. " I feel like I've got to be more of a leader to lead my team to a state championship. I feel like it has (helped), my teammates expect more out of me and I expect to give them more."

Following the team's spring game Friday against Montgomery (Ala.) Carver, Ross is headed to Oregon to compete against the best at The Opening Finals in late June. It's the only summer event on his calendar at this time.

"I just want to show them I'm the top receiver in the nation," he said.

Ross has no timetable for a decision.
