Artis: "They Love The Way I Play"

Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith inside linebacker Keshon Artis recently visited NC State and is high on the Wolfpack.

Keshon Artis' scholarship list continues to grow.

The Oscar Smith standout is closing in on 20 offers. However, Maryland and NC State are recruiting him hardest, and he gave a thought on each.

Maryland: "They were my first offer and I have a great relationship with the coaches," said the 6-foot-1, 228-pound Artis. "They're recruiting Virginia hard and that's impressive. I visited a few months ago and saw a lot of good things. I love the atmosphere and the academics at Maryland.

"(Linebackers) coach (Matt) Barnes is always honest with me. He tells me what I need to hear and not what I want to hear. He's told me that a lot of their linebackers are seniors and that if I choose Maryland, I'd be able to compete for early playing time."

NC State: "I like the academic support they give their players. (Cornerbacks) coach (George) Barlow and (defensive coordinator) coach (Dave) Huxtable are both recruiting me, which means a lot. They told me they love the way I play and I have potential to compete early for a starting job.

"I actually visited a few weeks ago. I got a chance to see the dorms and learn about the academics. I really enjoyed seeing the dorms because that's where I could be living for the next four to five years. I also talked with coach (Dave) Doeren and he spent a lot of time talking with my parents about life after football."

Tennessee recently offered and it will likely be his next visit.

"It's my first SEC offer and that's exciting," Artis said. "I know they've had a lot of great linebackers. I'm looking forward to seeing the academic side of the school and the relationships between the coaches and players.

"(Wide receivers) coach (Kevin) Beard is recruiting me and he's always honest. We've talked about life after football and how important that is when picking a school. I'll probably visit sometime at the end of May."

Artis will narrow his list to ten this summer and plans to make his commitment after the season.
