Khalid Jones is getting closer to making his college decision.
According to Jones, he plans to make his commitment next month.
"I haven't really narrowed it down to any specific schools and probably won't," said the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Jones. "I'll probably just commit. I'm just trying to make sure I visit all of the schools before I make my decision.
"But I'd say Mississippi, Maryland, Duke, California and Northwestern are showing the most interest and it definitely means a lot. I have great relationships with those coaching staffs and talk to them all the time."
Out of the schools above, Jones said Ole Miss is one of the programs recruiting him hardest.
"When I went down to visit, I was impressed with the family atmosphere," Jones said. "They also have a lot of young talent and a very good defense.
"I stay in contact with (linebackers) coach (Bradley Dale) Peveto. I think he's a really good coach and it seems like he has a really good relationship with his players. He's also a really nice guy."
One of his recent visits was to Maryland.
"I enjoyed the visit," Jones said. "I like that they have a staff with a strong defensive background and they're turning the program around. I also really like (linebackers) coach (Matt) Barnes and what he's done with the linebackers he's coached in the past."
His next trip will be to California.
"I'm going to visit either the first or second week in June," Jones said. "It's a big visit for me because coach (Justin) Wilcox recruited me when he was at Wisconsin, so we had a previous relationship, and actually talk a lot. He's been telling me they're excited to get me on campus and showing me the academic and football sides of Cal."
Although he does not have a definitive date for his announcement, Jones said his decision could come a week after his trip to California.
