Duke, Virginia Tech in good shape for N.C. DB Nate Thompson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sanford (N.C.) Southern Lee safety Nate Thompson will narrow his list of schools this summer and he spoke with Scout at The Opening Charlotte.

Nate Thompson's recruitment continues to progress.

"Right now, the schools I'm in contact with the most are DukeVirginia Tech and South Carolina," said the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Thompson. "It means a lot and shows that they really care. But I'm still not ready to name any favorites."

Throughout his recruitment, Duke has been a constant.

:"I have a great relationship with (wide receivers) coach (Matt) Guerrieri and (defensive backs) coach (Derek) Jones," Thompson said. "We stay in contact all the time. They've been telling me Duke is the best place for me academically and athletically."

What is next for Thompson?

"I'll probably name a top three this summer," Thompson said. "Duke and Virginia Tech will definitely make it. The connections I have with the coaches at those schools are the main reason. I'm not sure when I will make my commitment."

Thompson finished his junior season with 84 tackles, including two tackles for loss, seven pass breakups and four interceptions.
