Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Big 12, Pac-12 interests throughout in the defensive preview of Under Armour New Jersey

A look at the top defensive prospects scheduled to attend Sunday's Under Armour combine at Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph.

Defensive Backs

Safety Isheem Young, the No. 30 prospect in the nation, is the highest-rated defensive back in the competition, The Philadelphia Imhotep standout made several visits to Penn State in the spring and plans to visit West VirginiaClemsonLSUAlabama and Ohio State.

Virginia Tech commit Nasir Peoples of Warminster (Pa.) Archbishop Wood is a scheduled participant. He made a trip to Notre Dame in April. Rutgers commit Jarrett Paul of Paramus (N.J.) Catholic, Syracuse commit Trill Williams of White Plains (N.Y.) Archbishop Stepinac, Avery Young of Coatesville (Pa.) High, who has Rutgers, Maryland, Nebraska and Syracuse among his offers, and Brooklyn Erasmus Hall's Shamel Lazarus, who holds BuffaloKent State and Purdue offers, are all set to attend.

In the 2019 class, four-star Nyquee Hawkins of Orange (N.J.) High is one of the premier players. He made spring visits to Penn State, Michigan and Michigan State, and he is also looking hard at North CarolinaNotre Dame and Stanford.

Aliquippa (Pa.) High's M.J. Devonshire holds Syracuse, West Virginia and Oregon State offers, Tykee Smith has offers from Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple and West Virginia, and Jayvon Thrift of North Huntingdon (Pa.) Norwin has offers from West Virginia, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Temple.

Defensive Line

One of the hottest prospects in the nation is defensive end Jayson Oweh of Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy. He is visiting Penn State on Saturday, and he added offers during the week from Notre Dame and Ohio State. Georgia Tech is also heavily involved as his offer list pushes two dozen.

Notre Dame commits Jayson Ademilola and Justin Ademilola of Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep are being recruited by Ohio State, Alabama and Stanford as well. Paramus Catholic defensive end Dorian Hardy recently told Scout he was focused on Penn State, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Ohio State.

In the 2019 class, Howard Cross of Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph holds offers from Maryland, Michigan, NC State, Rutgers and Georgia Tech. He is the son of former NFL tight end Howard Cross, but not the only player at the event with a former NFL player dad. R.J. Oben of St. Peter's Prep holds offers from Louisville, Syracuse, Virginia and Ball State. His dad, Roman Oben, play offensive line in the NFL.

Also set to attend is Sparta (N.J.) Pope John XXIII defensive end Ireland Burke, who added spring offers from Maryland, PurdueOld DominionFlorida Atlantic and Temple.


The linebacker corps is filled with committed players in the 2018 class and led by Penn State commit Jesse Luketa of Erie (Pa.) Mercyhurst. Maryland commit Nihym Anderson of Vineland (N.J.) High, Virginia commit Javar Garrett of Hightstown (N.J.) Peddie, Boston College commit Evan Stewart of St. Joseph and Connecticut commit Dillon Harris of Cheshire (Conn.) Academy are set to perform.

Class of 2020 standout Kalel Mullings of Milton (Mass.) Academy holds offers from Michigan, Syracuse, Rutgers, Maryland and Boston College.
