Promising 2019 Offensive Lineman Chance Billington Talks SMU Offer and More

TYLER, Texas -- With his first FBS offer recently arriving, offensive lineman Chance Billington is an East Texas 2019 prospect to watch.

SMU recently became the first FBS program to offer Tyler (Texas) John Tyler 2019 offensive lineman Chance Billington, a high school tackle who could move inside at the next level.

"I don't know much yet about SMU, but my teammate (Tre Allison) committed there and he said they have a good program, as well as academics," Billington said. "So when he goes there I'm gonna go there with him and check out the environment and see how it is."

Billington said Jeff Traylor recruits him for the Mustangs. Traylor, who joined the SMU staff a couple of months ago after two years on the Texas staff, won three state titles at Gilmer High School and built the Buckeyes into a storied East Texas powerhouse.

"He likes my size, my versatility, my athleticism, things like that," Billington said.

SMU was Billington's first offer and was soon followed by an offer from Jackson State. The 6-foot-3, 301-pound offensive lineman has also gotten interest from Boise State and Arkansas.

Billington said he plans to visit SMU with teammate Allison and Arkansas for the "Trench Hogs" camp.

What are Billington's strengths as he prepares for his junior season?

"Vision, I can see things pretty quickly and pick them up," he said. "Just working with teammates and getting it done. Just making sure that we get to the next level as far as playoffs and stuff like that."

Billington also has a good handle on what he needs to improve to get better as an offensive lineman.

"I'm working on keeping my pad level low, going all plays 100 percent," Billington said, "and also just working on body language because body language shows a lot about how you play."
