Orlando-Based Standout Devin Hayes Says Yes to the NC State Wolfpack

NC State just scooped up a commitment from Devin Hayes, a three-star prospect who laces up the cleats for Orlando (Fla.) Jones.

Devin Hayes, a two-way standout in the trenches and rising senior at Orlando (Fla.) Jones, just stepped into the spotlight to announce his verbal commitment to NC State.

Tagged as a three-star prospect, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Hayes is armed with additional offers from Wake ForestRutgersSouth FloridaFlorida AtlanticFlorida InternationalBowling Green and Massachusetts among others.

"I have great relationship with the coaching staff, especially with the defense coordinator and o-line coach," Hayes told Scout. "I also fit their system offensively and defensively.

"They want me at offensive tackle, but if that doesn't work, they will put me back at d-end. (I'm visiting) this weekend; it will be my first time up there in Raleigh visiting the campus."

The Central Florida native says his comfort level, as well as the tight-knit relationships he has manufactured with Dave Doeren's staff, truly sealed the deal in his recruitment.

"I love the coaching staff because they know what they are doing with the program, and they put kids in the NFL," Hayes said. "They are trying to win the ACC Championship and I want to be a part of that.

"It's also a winning program."

Hayes is fairly raw with limited go-to moves at his disposal, but does a nice job of firing off the ball with decent pad level. He holds his own and flashes the ability to shed blockers and put a hat on the football, and is still in the infantile stage of his development on the field.

Hayes needs to continue to pack on weight and get stronger, but has a frame that should expand nicely once diving into a college strength and conditioning program. Given his athleticism and physical makeup, Hayes also shows no problem sliding his feet to mirror defensive linemen in pass protection. He is light on his feet, showing patience as well.

You will need to be patient with him, but there is no denying Hayes' potential once he makes the necessary strides in the weight room. You have to take notice of Hayes' top-notch character as well.

Hayes becomes NC State's first 2018 commitment from the Sunshine State.

As always, stay tuned to Scout.
