OL Reggie Sutton earned an offer camping at Rutgers

Balitmore Calvert Hall offensive lineman Reggie Sutton discusses the meaning of being offered by Rutgers.

Reggie Sutton earned an offer from Rutgers following a strong camp performance Saturday, and it was one with a lot of meaning.

For Sutton, this was not a camp to add to his offer list. It was a camp to land an offer from a school he likes a lot, and from a school he visited numerous times and camped at a year ago.

"It means a lot," said Sutton, an offensive guard prospect from Baltimore Calvert Hall. "Last year, when I went to the camp, (offensive line) coach (A.J.) Blazek wanted me to come back bigger, stronger, faster. For him to have confidence in me back then, and for me to come back and do the things he asked of me, and I get the offer because of it, it's just great to see the hard work paying off."

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Sutton was told about the offer during a post-camp meeting with coach Chris Ash and offensive line coach A.J. Blazek.

"We were in the Hale Center waiting to talk to coach Ash, and we were talking to some of the players, like Manny Taylor and Tariq Cole," Sutton said. "We were just getting a feel for the place from a player's perspective, and when the time came, we talked to (assistant) coach (Lester) Erb and (offensive coordinator) coach (Jerry) Kill, and then coach Ash was ready for us."

Sutton thought an offer was possible given the way Rutgers ramped up its recruitment of him lately.

"Coach Blazek mentioned it the last time I talked to him," Sutton said. "He said he really wanted me to have a big performance, and I felt it coming because some of the other coaches, they were contacting me before the camp. I got the feeling a little but, and I think a strong performance sealed the deal.

"The drills were some of the same ones I do at my own school, just some tweaks here and there. It was my second year working with him. I remember some of the drills from last year, and I think I excelled in that. He's easy going, but yet a demanding coach to get the best out of you."

Rutgers already has a relationship with Calvert Hall after landing Tyshon Fogg in the 2017 class.

And while the Scarlet Knights are recruiting Sutton hard, it will get a huge assistance from Fogg, who already was active on twitter in pushing for Sutton.

"He tells me a good deal when I talk to him time-to-time about it," Sutton said. "I know he's really excited to get there and get to work. He's probably going to be recruiting me harder than coach Ash and coach Blazek."

Sutton said he may camp at Boston College and Syracuse the next two weeks, and then start thinking about a decision.
