Three-star LB Khalid Jones commits to Northwestern

Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes inside linebacker Khalid Jones committed to Northwestern Wednesday and spoke with Scout following his announcement.

Northwestern secured a huge commitment from inside linebacker Khalid Jones Wednesday.

Jones is looking forward to his future with the Wildcats.

"It's a great feeling to be committed to Northwestern," said the 6-foot-1, 225-pound Jones. "I really like the coaching staff and the relationships they have with the players.

"I communicate with (linebackers) coach (Randy) Bates and (defensive line) coach (Marty) Long all the time. Coach Long gives me sound, unbiased advice. Coach Bates is really nice and funny."

Jones is ready to play for head coach Pat Fitzgerald.

"I'm really excited about playing for him," Jones said. "He's a three-time former All-American linebacker. I'm looking forward to learning from him and hopefully following in his footsteps. He's done a great job turning the program around and I also like the family atmosphere."

Byrnes opens their season on Aug. 19 at home against Myrtle Beach (S.C.) at 7:30 p.m.
