Jalen Green, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerbaack from Houston (Texas) Heights was one of the lite performers at The Opening Finals.
"It is a blessing to be out here and compete with all of the top guys in the nation," Green said. "I just come to show my talent and show that I can be one of the top DBs in the country."
On the recruiting front, Green announced a Top 13: Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Penn State, TCU, Texas, Tulsa, and USC.
"Relationships with the coaches and how they feel about me and they are places where I can stand out," Green said of his reasoning behind selecting those 13 programs. "It is not about the program, it is about the coaches that I trust."
Green's most recent unofficial visit was to the 'Texas Heat Wave' event, where he had a good time bonding with fellow recruits current UT and coaches.
"It was pretty cool," Green said. "It was especially fun with they tossed coach (Tom) Herman into the pool, so yeah it was pretty cool. They said that I can play my own game and play man press and all that."
The current class of committed 2018 UT defensive back recruits like Caden Sterns, B.J. Foster, and Demarvion Overshown stay in his ear about the Longhorns.
"Yes sir," Green said with a smile when asked if they are recruiting him hard. "Every day they text my phone to see what I am going to do."
Green would like to take unofficial trips to see schools like "Oregon, Penn State, (and) Clemson" this summer before announcing a cut-down list, but his top five is coming soon and then he could go ahead and make his commitment before the start of the 2017 football season.
"At the end of the month, at the end of July I am probably going to make my top five and then at the beginning of the season I am going to commit, just to be on the safe side," Green explained.
Green will play in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
