3-Star Arkansas Defensive Back LaDarrius Bishop Commits to Mississippi State

LaDarris Bishop, the top 2018 cornerback prospect in Arkansas, committed Saturday to Mississippi State.

For the second consecutive weekend, Mississippi State picked up a defensive back commitment from a neighboring SEC state.

Ashdown (Ark.) 2018 three-star cornerback LaDarrius Bishop announced Saturday his commitment to the Bulldogs, who he chose over Arkansas and Oklahoma State. Bishop's pledge comes eight days after St James (La.) three-star safety Shawn Preston Jr. committed to Mississippi State.

The 6-foot, 189-pound Bishop is a versatile, athletic prospect who Scout ranks as the top cornerback prospect in the state of Arkansas' 2018 recruiting class, as well as a top five overall 2018 prospect in Arkansas. In Bishop's commitment announcement on Twitter, he outlined why he chose Mississippi State

"When I began this recruiting journey I had three priorities: 1, play in the Big 12 or SEC," Bishop said. "2, attend a university where I could receive a great education. 3, play for a football program with a great coach."

Bishop continued:

"I quickly discovered that all three of these universities covered my priorities. Coach (Mike) Gundy, coach (Bret) Bielema, and coach (Dan) Mullin are all great people and great coaches and each school is a top academic university."

Bishop added that at that point, he added a fourth priority to his list.

"Which football program had the defensive coordinator and defensive back coach that I could relate to the most and I felt could get me to the next level," Bishop said.

Bishop concluded his letter with "Mississippi State - Hail State."

Mississippi State now has two cornerbacks and two safeties committed in the 2018 class. The Bulldogs' 16 pledges rank 28th nationally and sixth in the SEC in the updated Scout team recruiting rankings.
