Louisiana's Top DB Has U-M In Top Three

We talked last night to the top defensive back in Louisiana, a big safety/linebacker prospect. Michigan was just at his school this week, and the Wolverines are in strong contention for him!

We spoke last night to free safety Nick Harris from Alexandria, Louisiana.

Has Michigan been to your school this past week?

"Yes sir, a couple days ago. It was Coach (Fred) Jackson. And they called me on the phone as well -- it was Coach English (U-M's DB coach). Michigan had already offered be a few weeks ago."

Is Michigan one of your top schools?

"Yes sir. Michigan is one of my top three now, with LSU and Texas A&M."

Who all has offered you now?

"Besides Michigan and Texas A&M, I've been offered by Auburn, Mississippi, Tulane, Ohio Stats, and Arizona State. LSU has not offered me yet."

Have you thought of summer camps?

"Yes sir. I'll probably camp at LSU and Texas A&M. And maybe Auburn and Florida. Michigan is probably too far to get to their camp; I'll have to wait until my official visit to get up there."

You'll make an official visit to Michigan?

"Yes sir, I definitely will."

I see you scratched your 40 time at the LSU Nike Camp?

"Yes sir. I had spikes on, and kept slipping on the artificial turf. I measures 6-2 1/2, 209 lbs., had a 35 inch vertial jump, and ran a 4.2 sec. shuttle. And I had 12 bench press reps."

Note: Harris was considered one of the top seven overall performers in a very strong LSU Nike camp. He typically runs a 4.6 sec. 40. He plays free safety, but observers think he's a future linebacker.
So we asked him about playing linebacker. He laughed.

"I've heard that! I'll play safety in college as far as I know. All the colleges recruiting me are recruting me as a safety, except Texas A&M which says safety and wide receiver. So I don't know where anyone is coming up with linebacker!"

As a junior, Harris intercepted 10 passes, and made 81 solo tackles, 37 assisted tackles, and 21 tackles for loss; he also had 12 pass break-ups.

Harris is a strong student as well, with a 3.5 GPA and19 ACT.
