The Unofficial Visit Train For Harrell

Another big time in state prospect continues to take his unofficial visits in hope of drawing closer to a decision.

Marion Tabor Academy (MA) DE Jared Harrell (6-5, 233, 4.7) has offers from Duke, Maryland, Notre Dame, Purdue, Syracuse, Mississippi St and UCLA. Jared denies a leader.

"I was at Miami on 6/12, then I was at NC State (6/14)," said Harrell. "On 6/15 I'm going to UNC, and then 6/19 I'll be at Boston College. I'm going to Maryland 6/21, and then 6/25 I'm taking a trip to the midwest to visit my father's family where I'll camp at Notre Dame, Purdue, and Ohio St.

"I'm from Massachusetts, so I'd be happy to have even one offer. Unless I see a school and know that that's it, I'll narrow it down to five at the end of the summer and take my official visits.

"I'd have to say Duke, Notre Dame and Maryland are recruiting me the hardest.

"Duke was my first offer, back in March. My aunt used to work there. It's a great area and a good situation. They're improving.

"Notre Dame's graduation rate and quality of education caught my attention when I visited there in April. Coach (Ty) Willingham is a very impressive man. They always play a good, tough schedule.

"I've never actually been to Maryland. I've met (O Coord) coach (Charlie) Taaffe and (RB) coach (Bill) O'Brien, and I'm interested to meet the rest of the coaches when I go there next week.

"I'd like to visit UCLA, but my schedule is probably too busy.

"I have really good speed and quickness off the ball, and I run hard every play. I'm good at pursuit, at tracking down RBs on the other side of the field."

Jared is a two-time All-America in the javelin, with a personal-best of 184'. He thinks he might want to throw the javelin in college, but isn't being recruited hard.

As junior Harrell logged an impressive resume of 70 tackles, five sacks, 12 QB hurries, and one fumble caused.

"Academics are very important to me; I go to a private boarding school now. I want to get a good (college) degree. I want to major in business."

He has already achieved an 1100 on his SAT and maintains a GPA around the 3.0 mark.
