"I committed to UCLA on Tuesday. I talked with Coach (Karl) Dorrell and let him know I was going to commit. After I talked to Coach Dorrell, Coach (Tom) Cable came in and I told him too. They are both really happy," said Tevaga, who brings UCLA's total commitments to 11.
Tevaga's older brother, Shannon Tevaga, started at guard for the Bruins last fall and was a Freshman All-American as a true freshman. Sonny and Shannon last played together when Shannon was a senior at La Mirada and Sonny was a sophomore.
"It will be cool to play with him again. My mom is really happy for us to be able to play together. I hope I can play as a freshman like he did," said Tevaga.
Tevaga said, "I knew where I wanted to go and UCLA was always my top school. I haven't decided about my mission yet, but I plan to go to UCLA right away and help them out. I want to come in the Spring."
Tevaga said the verbal was solid and he is set to focus on his first year on the field since his sophomore campaign. He had to sit out the 2004 season because of the transfer rule, when he moved to Dominguez.
He plans to camp at Arizona later this month, but will miss the UCLA camp because of a family obligation.
Tevaga is carrying a 3.1 GPA and received a qualifying test score.
