Indiana Coach Terry Hoeppner is in Chicago for the Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon this week, but the Hoosiers' coach got some big news with the latest verbal commitment for his 2007 recruiting class.
HoosierNation.com has learned Max Dedmond, a 6-5, 240-pound tight end from Evansville Central H.S., verbally committed to the Hoosiers Monday night. Indiana won a hotly-contested recruiting battle for Dedmond, who also had scholarship offers from Purdue, Louisville, Vanderbilt and Cincinnati, among others.
A three-star recruit according to Scout.com, Dedmond was a first-team All-State pick a year ago after recording 170 tackles as a defensive end. He's expected to move to tight end as a senior, though, which is where he is expected to play at Indiana.
"Max is a tremendous blocker and he can run so he's a natural at tight end," said Evansville Central H.S. Coach Mike Owen.
HoosierNation.com will have more on Dedmond's commitment Tuesday.
