Greg McCoy, a DB prospect out of Woodrow Wilson HS in Dallas, Texas took an official visit to Iowa City this weekend to check out campus. Hosted by Bradley Fletcher, McCoy felt confident in his ability to pick up the defensive schemes Iowa runs.
"I sat down with the DB coach and everything looked pretty easy to me, as far the defenses," McCoy said. "I don't think the pace of the game would change for me."
McCoy also had a chance to talk with head coach Kirk Ferentz, and came away impressed with his honestly.
"I feel like he's a reasonable person," McCoy said. "He's an up-front person, and that's what I like. I wouldn't want anybody to be telling me anything that's the polar opposite. He's going to tell the truth, whether you want to hear it or not. That was a plus."
McCoy said he expected Iowa to be colder than it was, as temperatures hovered in the 40s and during the weekend.
"I thought it would be colder, which it probably will be later on," McCoy said. "Other than that, I didn't know what to expect.
"Everybody was gone from college for the holidays, and it was still alright, I can only imagine what it's like with all the people there."
McCoy has been receiving strong interest from Michigan State, who recently offered. What sort of pitch has he been receiving from the Spartans?
"Basically, you know they're going to tell me what they can do for me," he said. "The conversation was about if I had a problem with leaving home or if I had a problem with playing in front of a lot people."
McCoy said he has visits scheduled to TCU and Michigan State in January, and will be making a decision on his college choice after those visits.
