Schiano Pays Home Visit to Nicolas

Joseph Nicolas, by way of Homestead HS [FL] originally gave Rutgers his verbal agreement upon returning from his official to the budding Big East power. However, Nicolas would then trip to in-state school Miami and reports surfaced that Nicolas was split right down the middle between the pair. Earlier this week, RU Football Head Coach Greg Schiano made an in-home visit with Nicolas in an effort to

... get the blue chip sunshine state prospect back on board with the Rutgers Football family. StateofRutgers.com recently caught up with Nicolas to get a sense for how Schiano's in-home visit went.

"It was very good," stated Nicolas.

What is the status of Nicolas' recruitment now?

"I reaffirmed my commitment," said Nicolas.

Any particular reason that Nicolas decided this was in his best interests?

"He just assured my family that everything up there was going to be okay. He told me about being the type of player that I want to be and how I can do that there and that I can come in and help out next year," said Nicolas.

Schiano's conversations with Nicolas and his family touched on football but discussed the more important things that a recruit, especially one far from home, needs to be assured of.

"He told us that if I ever needed someone to talk to that he'd always be there for me, and that was very important."

Additionally, Nicolas and his family were happy to hear about the academic side of things, and the personal support system already in place.

Rutgers fans may recall a similar turn of events late in the recruiting game last year, when then-NC State Head Coach Chuck Amato tried to sway PA standout and Scarlet Knight commitment Andres Morales to the ACC. Much like he did last year, Rutgers Head Football Coach Greg The Closer Schiano once again closed the deal upon an in-home visit.
