Recruiting's Done For Texas DL

Chris Perry took his final recruiting visit of the year and after a wild recruiting process for the talented defensive tackle from Texas, it's over for him.

"I'm all finished now," Chris Perry said. "I'm ready to sign the papers now. I'm a Hurricane."

Perry, 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, said he enjoyed spending the weekend in Coral Gables.

"Everything was perfect," he said. "We went to Dan Marino's place to eat and then went to the Charterhouse for steak. We got an academic tour, saw the dorms, went to South Beach, and I went out with my host both nights."

Perry was hosted by Calais Campbell, a fellow defensive lineman from the Big 12 region.

"He was real cool," he said. "His brother actually just committed to Miami and that was cool."

The talented defensive lineman was asked for his favorite part of the Miami trip.

"I'd have to say it was hanging out with Calais and going to the different house parties," he said. "I met Ray Lewis. He was shorter than I thought he'd be."

Perry said he had a chance to meet Coach Swasey and that had him very excited about his future as a Hurricane.

"I really like him," he said. "I'm gonna enjoy working for him the next few years. He wants dedication and that's what he'll get from me. A lot of players in the NFL still work out with him. Edgerrin James, Chad Johnson, Willis McGahee, and Santana Moss were all in town."

Perry said he enjoyed meeting with the coaches on his visit as well.

"Coach Shannon's real cool," he said. "Him and I went for a walk after dinner last night. I met the light-skinned cornerbacks coach (Tim Walton), who I think is going to be the new defensive coordinator. He's real cool."

Perry is excited about the opportunity for early playing time as a freshman next year.

"There are a few guys but I know there will be competition no matter where you go," he said. "I really like the situation at Miami, though."

The talented Texan said he enjoyed hanging out with the other recruits who were on the visit.

"We were all having fun and hanging out," he said. "It was me, Deonte Thompson, Major Wright, Damien Berry, and Lee (Chambers) mostly. I really didn't ask them if they were all coming to Miami but I know they were having a real good time and like everything about Miami."

Perry said he won't take any other visits and the only in-home visit he has coming up is one with the Miami coaches this week.

"Coach Shannon and Coach Hurtt are coming on Tuesday," he said. "It's all done. Bob Stoops tried talking to me the other day and I told him that I'm a Hurricane."
