Talented Florida TE/DE

Phil Smith is a talented two-way player from Jesuit H.S. in Tampa.

Phil Smith played in his first varsity football season in 2006 and it was a good one. He finished the season with six sacks on offense and helped the team's running back to over 1,600 yards in just 10 games.

"I like playing both sides," Smith said. "Where I play in college, it doesn't really matter. I just love playing and love competing."

Smith, 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds, also plays basketball and will get a lot of looks because of his size and athletic ability.

"I don't have any offers yet but some schools are showing interest," he said. "Florida, South Florida, Boston College, Georgia Tech, and LSU are some of the schools I like right now. It's still real early though."

Smith, who carries a 3.3 GPA and already scored an 1180 on the SAT, talked about the things he'll be looking for in a school.

"Academics is first," he said. "You never know when football's going to be over. And location is another thing. I'd like to stay closer to home if possible."
