Canes Get Commit From DT

Pahokee, Fla. standout Micanor Regis is one of the top defensive tackle prospects in South Florida and he made his commitment today.

Micanor Regis was watching his offer list grow by the day. It started off with a bang and continued.

"I had offers from a bunch of schools," Regis said. "I ended up losing count but I had Miami, Florida State, Florida, Clemson, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, a bunch of them."

On Saturday, Regis decided to end the recruiting process nearly one year prior to signing day.

"I committed to Miami today," he said. "I'm gonna be a Hurricane. I went to their scrimmage today and talked to all the coaches. They were glad to meet me and were all congratulating me. I'm really excited about it."

Regis, 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, is coming off an excellent junior season at Pahokee. He finished the year with 65 tackles and 15 quarterback sacks while leading his team to the Class 2B state championship.

"He's a big time player for us," head coach Leroy Foster said. "He's a dominating player in there. He has size, strength, athletic ability, everything. I think he's one of the best in the state."

The standout defensive lineman spoke more about his commitment to Miami.

"I just felt at home when I was there," he said. "The scrimmage was real competitive and I just felt really comfortable around the coaches and being at the school and everything. It's a strong program and everything and I just like how they operate."

Regis, who carries a 2.7 overall GPA and will test for the first time next month, was asked if he'll still consider other schools.

"Naw," he said. "I'm done. I'll just go to Miami for the visit and then I'll sign with them after the season."

Regis attended the Combine last Saturday and ran a 5.19/40 at 6-3 and 310 pounds.
