More For Johnson

T.J. Johnson had a quick streak of new offers at the end of last month, and the offensive lineman from Aynor, S.C., added a couple recently heading into the May evaluation period.

"I hadn't recived a whole lot lately, but I'm up to nine right now," said the 6-foot-4, 286-pounder. "East Carolina and Tulane have offered me. I think Virginia, Colorado, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina are still close to offering me."

Johnson understands that things could pick up very soon as college coaches can start to take visits this week.

"I think Coach O'Brien from NC State is coming up on Friday and Coach Sherrod from Duke on Thursday, and Spurrier, Jr. from South Carolina is coming up sometime. To be honest, they all said they're coming at some point, but they are just not sure when."

Some could visit for Johnson's spring practice, which begins May 15.

Johnson himself got an opportunity to see spring games for NC State and Kentucky, and came away very much impressed with his trip to Raleigh.

"I really iiked it. They have really nice facilities, I liked the new coaching staff down that came down from Boston College, and I really like that Coach O'Brien is a winner. You could just tell by talking to him. I liked the offensive line coach and the schemes they run."

The zone blocking schemes, Johnson added, are a natural fit for his playing style as his team runs similar variations in high school.

"I like a zone scheme because it's what we run, inside zone and outside zone, so it is something I liked."

while visiting, Johnson said the idea of committing did cross his mind, but he knew he had other things to do first.

"Nothing really big, but I don't want to commit too early. I want to wait it out and see who else offers."
