Notre Dame extended Kyle Long (6-foot-270 pounds) a scholarship offer in late December, but his name hasn't been mentioned much when people discuss Irish prospects. Despite the lack of chatter, Long is still a target for the Irish staff.
"I still have interest in Notre Dame and I've been in contact with Notre Dame," Long said when asked about his contact with the Irish. "Any changes I have I'll call coach Weis, but we have a good relationship and we don't need to be in contact all the time.
"Coach Powlus stopped by my baseball game the other day and I think coach Weis was as well."
Long listed his top tier of schools under consideration as Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Virginia, Notre Dame, and USC. He will have a difficult decision in deciding between those colleges. Kyle also wants to make a decision on whether to pursue baseball or football.
"I'm pretty set on playing one sport in college," Long explained. "The problem is finding out which sport. I don't have a timetable for a decision, but I'm sure something will happen that will help me make up my mind.
"I'm going to take my visits and go from there. I have a pretty hectic schedule. My parents would have to go with me on all my and its difficult scheduling a time when we all can go."
If Long does decide to play football he could play either side of the ball.
"Notre Dame is recruiting me at defensive end," Long said. "I'm big on the team thing. I'm one of eleven, so I could care less where I play as long as I'm helping the team out.
"I think what separates me from other people is my work ethic. That's the only thing that I can control. I'm just going to work hard. Something will happen and I'll eventually know what I want to do."
