Speed to Burn

At 6-1, 195-pounds with 4.4 speed, Ramon Buchanan from Melbourne (Fla.) Palm Bay High School is one of the top linebacker prospects in the state of Florida.

Spring practice started May 1 at Palm Bay, and one glaring omission from the practice field was star linebacker Ramon Buchanan.

"We started practice last week, but I missed the entire week due to our track competition," Buchanan said. "I placed fifth in the long jump."

Buchanan's athleticism has garnered offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, Colorado, Central Florida and Arkansas.

He has been to junior days at Florida State and Central Florida and enjoyed both. He also attended the Gators' Orange and Blue game.

"I had a good time at Florida," he said. "The defense looked real good to me."

Palm Bay has been kind to the Gators over the years with players like Reggie Nelson and Joe Cohen bringing their services to Gainesville. Now, Buchanan, because of his speed, can play safety or grow into a linebacker.

"I can play a couple different positions at the next level because of my quickness and my football knowledge."

Buchanan lists his top five in this order: Florida, Miami, LSU, Wake Forest and Florida State.

On Florida:
"I like everything about Florida right now. They are hot and it's a good place to be."

Buchanan had over a 100 tackles as a junior and reports a 2.9 GPA.
