Long Goes Diamond Over Gridiron

While many football fans across the country hoped that Charlottesville, Va., two sport standout Kyle Long would opt to stick with the gridiron as his collegiate sport, they learned today that Long will pursue a career in baseball at the next level, particular with the Florida State Seminoles.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat 6-foot-7, 290-pound St. Anne's-Belfield School defensive lineman Kyle Long has given his verbal pledge to the Florida State Seminoles. The article insinuated that the Charlottesville, Va., native may opt to only play baseball at the collegiate level and Kyle Long backed that statement to Scout.com Recruiting Manager Bob Lichtenfels today.

"Going further I do not want to give interviews and have discussed that with my parents, but I will tell you that I have committed to play baseball at Florida State," Long explained. "I will be playing baseball and baseball only."

Long had apparently narrowed his decision down to Florida State and Ohio State recently and made the decision to pull the trigger this weekend while visiting Tallahassee.

The original article from the Tallahassee Democrat is as follows:

"The Tallahassee Democrat confirmed on Saturday night that top baseball prospect Kyle Long has committed to play for the Seminoles. Long, a 6-foot-7 pitcher/first baseman, took his official visit to FSU over the weekend. He is also a highly rated football prospect but may opt to play just baseball in college."

Long had 45 tackles as a junior. He bench presses 330 pounds and power cleans 340. He also has a 550 squat and reports a 2.8 core GPA and 1640 SAT score.
