Turnley Grabs Big Offer

Growing up in Aliquippa, Pa., the chances of Ryan Turnley coming out of childhood as anything but a Pittsburgh Panther fan were slim and none and today became very special for the young offensive lineman as that childhood favorite extended him a written scholarship offer.

Ryan Turnley holds somewhere around a dozen written scholarship offers now after picking up another from Pittsburgh earlier today. The 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive tackle from Hopewell High School has already seen teammates Jared Rains and David Posluszny make their college selections and while Turnley will be the last, his decision won't be far from now.

"Pittsburgh was obviously a big offer for me because they have always been my favorite team," Turnley explained. "I grew up a Pitt fan, my family are all Pitt fans, both of my uncles graduated from Pitt and we're surrounding by Panther fans where I live. They are definitely up there with my other offers now and I have actually decided to narrow the field down to six schools."

"Pittsburgh, Akron, Wisconsin, Louisville and Maryland are the five schools I narrowed it down to, but I really like Georgia Tech too and want to give them a fair shake, so I guess it is really a top six," Turnley added. "I won't make my final decision for a least a month and plan to visit all six of these schools before sitting down with my family and making the final call."

Turnley already visited one of those six finalists in Akron with his brother and teammate and current Notre Dame commit David Posluszny on Monday. While some may be quick to count out the Zips in this race, that certainly is not how Turnley feels about the program.

"It was really surprisingly nice at Akron and I went into it not expecting their facilities to be as nice as they were, but they were really up there with almost every school I have been to so far," Turnley said. "While I was there I sat down with Coach (Brian) Callahan and Coach (Joe) Moorhead and watched some film with them while talking football for a while. I really enjoyed my visit to Akron."

Turnley will be visiting Pittsburgh on Thursday morning and his father is in the process of booking flights over the next four weeks for him to travel to Georgia Tech, Maryland, Louisville and Wisconsin. At the conclusion of those four visits Turnley plans to sit down and decide where his future home will be, so at this point we can expect a decision at some point between now and the beginning of August.
