Summer Leads to Six

"To repeat as champs and be All Arizona." These are the goals of DE Derek Bisgard from Saguaro HS (Scottsdale, AZ). Read more inside.

Last season for the state champion Saguaro Sabercats, Derek Bisgard was a terror on both sides of the ball. He earned all state recognition as an OL by the Arizona Republic and got the nod as a DL by the Arizona Football Coaches Association. The 6-2 255 pound Bisgard made the rounds of camps and combiens that are typical of high school players now and currently has a list of six schools of interest. did a brief question and answer with Derek to get an update on recruiting and how his off season trainign has went.


How have you been training for the season?
"I've been working out and running twice a day during the week and doing some work on Saturdays."


What gains have you made in the weight room and on your forty?

"I've definitely been getting stronger on all my lifts although I haven't maxed out on any of them yet and won't until the very end of summer. As far as 40 I was timed at a 5.07 last week at Saguaro."

What camps did you go to?

"Arizona, Cal, Northern Arizona, Southern California Nike Camp and Scout combine in LA."

Any recent offers?


What schools would you list as your favorites?

"Army, U of A, Colorado, Cal, UConn and NAU."

When will you cut down your list or possibly commit?
"After my official visits probably sometime after season."

Have you set up any trips?

"Not as of yet"

What have you learned over the past year in regards to recruiting?

"I've learned that a lot of the recruiting process involves many things that don't have anything to do with playing football."

What are your goals for the season?

"To repeat as champs and be All Arizona."
