Even though the Aldine football team only returns 16 letterman, 13 of them are starters from a team that made the postseason in 2006. Offensively (nine returnees), the Mustangs are loaded with plenty athletes who can make plays. And best believe coach Bob Jones will utilize them.

One of the many top starters is quarterback Darron Thomas. Thomas is coming off a strong junior season where he threw for 1,000 yards and rushed for another 500. He recorded seven touchdowns.

Joining him in the backfield is running back Otis Wiley who had 727 yards and seven touchdowns last year. Sophomore Dontae Williams will also see some action.

When the Mustangs put the ball in the air, Tyson Williams (19 catches, three touchdowns) and Tiki Anderson will likely be Thomas' top targets. Newcomer Travon Bolden and Clyde Green will also be in the rotation.

The offensive line is led by big man (6-6, 320) Daniel Campbell. Albert Olivo and Jose Salazar join Campbell.

On defense, Aldine has all of its linebackers back for 2007. The corp is led Anthony Lewis and he will line up with Denarius Marshall (six sacks in 2006) and David Johnson. Leroy Johnson is the lone returning defensive lineman, but Phillip Dean is expected to contribute.

In the secondary, Demitrius Dugar leads the crew. Dugar had two interceptions last season. Derek Milburn and Patrick Carlton will also be in the defensive backfield.

Look for Aldine to end this season with a record better than a 6-5 finish like 2006. If the Mustangs manage to hold their opponents defensively, the offense will take care of the rest.
