Jones Holding Five Offers

Harrisburg, Pa., product Mike Jones is in the process of setting up official visits right now and holds written scholarship offers from five programs at this point. With many more schools showing significant amounts of interest in the athlete, he could see himself push into the double digits with a solid senior season.

Mike Jones has the size at 6-foot-1, 215 pounds and the speed, running a confirmed 4.42 40-yard dash, to play a number of different positions at the collegiate level. He has already picked up scholarship offers from Akron, Michigan State, Miami(OH), Syracuse and Iowa and is also being recruited by a number of different schools including, but not limited to, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Minnesota and Virginia. We spoke with the Bishop McDevitt athlete recently to see how his recruiting picture is shaping up.

"Right now I am being recruited at running back, cornerback and safety and have five scholarship offers," Jones said. "Syracuse, Akron, Michigan State and Iowa all like me at running back and Pittsburgh likes me at safety. Most of the other programs have shown interest in me at corner. I plan to visit Pittsburgh on September 1st for a game and then want to make it for games at Syracuse, Akron and Michigan State too. Other schools I have thought about taking a visit to are Minnesota, West Virginia, Iowa, Miami(OH) and Virginia."

Pittsburgh - "At this point I really feel like they are very close to offering me as a safety from what the staff has been saying. I really like both Coach (Brian) Angelichio and Coach (Dave) Wannstedt a lot and already have two friends on the team in Shady (LeSean McCoy) and Aaron Berry. I was there for a one-day camp and also made it over for junior day and really liked Pittsburgh a lot."

Syracuse - "I really liked the campus and stadium at Syracuse and thought the coaches were all very cool there. Syracuse is another place that I have two former teammates at, so that brings a comfort level. They also offer many majors academically, one of which is construction engineering which I would like to major in."

Michigan State - "I was planning on making it up there with Julian Harrell this summer, but that fell through, so I will take an official there this fall to learn about them. They actually just sent me a huge book in the mail today about their program, so I plan to look through it and start researching the school."

Jones only played in six games as a junior, but managed just over 800 yards and 13 touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball. He also intercepted three passes and returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

As a sophomore, Jones rushed for 1055 yards and nine touchdowns.
