Calm Before the Storm

Jake Wieclaw, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound, kicker, from New Lenox (Ill.) Lincoln Way Central, is considered one of the best prospects at his position in the Midwest. We spoke with Jake in May and he didn't have a scholarship offer. After the first two weeks of the season, it looks like #1 could be on the way.

Jake Wieclaw was 19 of 22 field goals as a junior with a long of 48. The first game of his senior season, Wieclaw won the game in hostile atmosphere in East St. Louis, Ill., with a 27 yard field goal.

Wieclaw didn't stop there. He hit a 52-yard field goal with 1.1 seconds left in the first half of game #2 against rival Sandburg. Word around the campfire was that there were several college coaches in attendance including one from Texas.

"I still don't have any offers but things couldn't be going much better." Wieclaw said. "I'm very confident right now and our team is doing well.

"I'd say the schools that are recruiting me the hardest are Miami, Fla., and Illinois. I probably like the University of Illinois the most right now. I'm also looking at Miami, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Western Michigan and Colorado."

Wieclaw had plenty of leg on his 52-yard field goal this past Friday. Sources are telling that the field goal would have been good from 60-yards.

Kickers aren't usually the first to get scholarship offers but once Jake Wieclaw gets offer #1, the dam is going to break and break hard.

There are several schools waiting to see who's going to pull the trigger first and once that happens, Wieclaw should have his pick of schools.
