Texas Speedster Talks Recruiting

Three-star cornerback recruit Devin Smith has plenty of scholarship offers. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder, from Coppell, Texas has the opportunity to play his college football in about five different conferences including the Big Ten. Are the Badgers still in the hunt for Smith's services? Devin gives us the 411.

"Oh, no doubt, I'm still looking at Wisconsin but I'm really taking everything slow right now." Devin Smith told Badger Nation.com.

"I have offers from Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, Rice, Air Force, Central Florida, Colorado State, Baylor and a few other schools.

"I'm still keeping things open right now. I'm trying to do my homework on all the schools that have offered me a scholarship. There are a few other schools like LSU and Louisville that haven't offered yet but told me to be patient."

What does Smith know about the University of Wisconsin?

"I know Wisconsin has a very good defense," said Smith. "I think Wisconsin was ranked pretty high in overall pass defense last year as well. They play in a great conference and I know Coach Bielema is one of the best defensive minds in the game.

"What I'm going to do is look at all my options after the season. From there I'll set up my official visits and make my decision. I'm in no hurry. Distance isn't a factor at all. I'm going to find the best fit for academics and athletics. I'm also going to be looking at the depth chart."

As a junior, Smith had 53 tackles and 7 interceptions. He also had 23 receptions for 250 yards on the offensive side of the ball. He's being recruited by Badgers assistant coach Kerry Cooks.

Smith carries a 3.6 GPA in the classroom and he's waiting on his test scores.
