Louisiana Rewind: Week 5 Recap

Week five is in the record books in Louisiana and Scout.com has plenty of stats and notes from the Bayou State.

2008 Prospects

 

4-star defensive end Chase Clement picked off two passes but E.D. White could not derail the Belle Chasse train in a 41-13 loss.

Bastrop held on to defeat Rayville 42-36 in a shootout led by the arm and legs of Randall Mackey.

 

Mackey accounted for five scores on the evening and did his damage by going 12-of-20 for 181 yards and a couple of scores with the big one going for 75 yards to junior Rueben Randle. Mackey also scored three times on the ground and finished with 69 yards on 12 carries.

 

Leading the Rayville charge was Justin Higgins with five scores of his own. He completed 9-of-20 for 141 yards and 2 TDs, and ran for 113 yards and 3 TDs on 18 carries.

 

Higgins' top receiving threat Chris Tolliver was shutdown on the night and tallied 17 yards on the ground with a couple of short catches.

Tyler Edwards grabbed five passes for 47 yards in Ouachita's 45-6 win over Southwood.

Brandon Taylor scored his district leading ninth touchdown on a 2-yard run in Franklinton's 33-0 shutout of Pine.

LaRon Byrd hauled in a 30 yard touchdown pass and later a 31-yard score in Hahnville's 55-14 win over McDonough 35.

Destrehan defeated John Ehret 30-14 and Jerico Nelson had a hand in three of the Wildcat scores. He rushed for a couple of TDs and finished with 61 yards on 22 carries, and also fired a 72-yard touchdown pass to Damaris Johnson.

 

Johnson finished with six receptions for 112 yards and 2 TDs, while Jordan Jefferson was good on 12-of-17 passing for 103 yards and a score.

Leesville's Allen Muse is showing just how dangerous he can be when he gets the ball thrown to him. He had another big outing with six catches for 106 yards including a 39 yard touchdown in the Wampus Cats' 43-13 win over DeRidder.

3-star wide out Khiry Cooper had five receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown in Calvary Baptist's 61-35 win over Homer.

 

Throwing the scoring strike was Jake Booty, who finished 19-of-27 for 293 yards with 4 TDs and 1 INT.

DeShanti Mitchell missed some time due to a sprained ankle but he was back in form in Sterlington's 35-21 win over Ouachita Christian. The quick scat back carried the ball 29 times for 156 yards and 4 TDs.

West Monroe rolled over Airline 49-6 and several Rebels had their hand in the big win.

 

Don Brown showed his versatility at coming out of the backfield and hauled in a 31-yard TD pass while Michael Manning had a couple of catches for 82 yards with one going for a 68-yard score. Mario Wiley added three catches for 44 yards in the Rebels big win.

Acadiana's Jonathan Morvant threw the ball only 10 times but went for 239 yards and 2 TDs in the Wreckin Rams' 41-21 win over Lafayette.

Iowa State commit Josh Jordan had another solid outing as St. Amant won 24-3 over Baton Rouge-Woodlawn. He completed 13-of-21 for 220 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Gators to victory.

Lutcher's Blaine Gauthier accounted for five touchdowns in a 47-7 win over Broadmoor. He completed 11-of-16 through the air for 190 yards and 4 TDs and also scored on the ground from 27 yards out.

Evangel aired it out in a 31-7 victory over Springhill with Quinn Giles and Roderic Banks having a big night.

 

Giles had six grabs for 148 yards and a touchdown while Banks had three catches for 118 yards and two scores.

St. Thomas More ran past Zachary 28-7 behind Mikie Mahtook's 109 yard and one touchdown rushing performance.

 

2009 Prospects

 

Jacob Karam had a huge night as Friendswood defeated Santa Fe 56-6. The junior signal caller completed 12-of-16 passes for 277 yards with 4 TDs and no INTs. His scoring tosses covered 58, 65, 69 and 12 yards.

Wes Luquette completed 10-of-13 for 134 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs in Newman's 26-14 victory over De La Salle.

D.J. Banks had a breakout performance in West Monroe's crowded backfield as the Rebels rolled to a 49-6 victory over Airline. The talented junior ran four times for 87 yards including one scamper that resulted in a 28-yard touchdown and he also caught a pass for 17 yards.

 

Banks' teammate LaDarius Abrams added 73 yards and two scores on four totes with his scores covering 5 and 45 yards.

Two of the state's top receivers for 2009 went head-to-head in Bastrop's 42-36 win over Rayville.

 

Rueben Randle had five catches for 87 yards including one that went for a 75-yard score to lead Bastrop while Kenny Bell hauled in two passes for 58 yards with one going for a 50-yard touchdown.

Richwood's big play guy Richard Wilson scored three touchdowns in a 49-14 win over Jackson. He caught two passes for 45 yards including a 31-yard score, and added an 11-yard scoring run to go with his 55 yard punt return that he took back to the house.

Alex Singleton was a one-man wrecking crew as East St. John defeated Carencro. Singleton, who already has an offer from Tennessee, rushed 26 times for 305 yards and 4 TDs that covered 66, 40, 35 and 2 yards.
