Zajac is a Bronco

Holt High School (Holt, MI) is 9-0 this season and set to start their playoff run on Friday. One thing that could be on their side is that star linebacker Mitch Zajac will no longer have the recruiting burden on his shoulder as he made his college choice over the weekend.

Mitch Zajac is now a Bronco. The 6'1, 245-lb inside linebacker from Holt, MI has committed to Western Michigan.

"It was really a tough decision for me," Zajac confessed, "I had a lot of interest from Harvard and Princeton but in the end it came down to a few things. One thing is that they offered a full ride scholarship, something the other schools couldnt do. They also have a good engineering program and they are close to home. So my family will be there for probably every game."

Zajac had also drawn interest from Michigan, Michigan State, Eastern Michigan and other MAC schools, but the Broncos were the first and only to put forth an offer.

An outstanding student in the classroom, it the Ivy League offers were enticing to Zajac, but on his recent official visit to WMU, everything just seemed to fall into place.

"It was just a feeling I have about them and I just really like the coaches and the atmosphere in and around town."

Timing was also a key part of this as Zajac was able to bring a little positivity to an otherwise tough day in Kalamazoo.

"The coaches were pretty excited too," he said, "I let them in on the surprise just after the tough loss to Akron. Despite their bad moods, they all hugged me, so I took that as a good sign that they were excited that I was going to be a Bronco!"

Zajac and his Holt teammates now turn their attention to the state playoffs where they will now put their 9-0 record to the test.

The Rams will meet Battle Creek Central in the 1st Round where Zajac will be a key part of stopping the Bearcat running game lead by Larry Caper and Bill Young.
