Many people thought for a while that Rossville High defensive end Duane Zlatnik would most likely make a commitment after his senior season came to an end and that was indeed the case as the Scout.com three-star prospect issued a commitment to Kansas Sunday night.
At 6-foot-4, 270 pounds, Zlatnik put up some impressive number as a senior by racking up over 115 tackles and eight sacks and will most assuredly be named as an All-State performer fro his efforts.
"Kansas is having a great year and I just like their coaches and their players," Zlatnik informed about his decision.
Kansas has long been known for its basketball program, but under Mark Mangino the Jayhawks are in the midst of their greatest football season ever, and Zlaqtnik wants to keep that train rolling.
"Oh yeah," Zlatnik said in response when asked if he was fired up to keep the momentum going. "Hopefully I can help them win Big 12 North championships and make an impact on the defense."
"I play defensive end, and they said that I will be brought in as a defensive end as far as I know, but I would be willing to move down if they needed me to."
In addition to being a fantastic football talent Zlatnik is also the defending State Heavyweight Championship wrestler, and he believes that helps him have an edge on the gridiron.
"It helps with learning balance and using my hands," Zlatnik admitted. "It has helped me out a lot."
