Ohio Running Back Picks Up First Offer

Ohio running back picks up first offer after fine senior season. Scout.com has the latest information of schools showing interest and the one that made the offer.

Centerville High School has seen its share of top football prospects over the years. With names like Hawk headlining the schools list of former stars that went onto college to find success, Jay Cravens (listed as James Cravens)knew he needed to concentrate on his senior season and let his on field play speak for itself. With the season over, college coaches are starting to show their interest with one making an official offer to the running back.

Having rushed for over 1,000 yards on the season Cravens showed college coaches he had the ability to take his game to another level after sharing much of the load in a crowded backfield as a junior. His on field performance earned him First Team All-GWOC honors along with Second Team All-Southwest Ohio behind a couple of other top running backs in Darius Ashley (St. Xavier), Dominique Sherrer (Colerain) and Corey Brown (Troy).

With several MAC schools in contact since last spring Cravens has been waiting for the one to pull the trigger and offer. That offer came on Tuesday (12-4-07) from Ball State who also set up a time for Cravens to take his official visit in January at the Indiana school.

"Ball State offered me today when I was at school. They've set me up to take an official visit from January 11-13 and I'm very excited about the chance to see more of the school. I visited there this summer and liked the coaching staff and what I saw then but can't wait to go back and look more in-depth."

While some have felt Cravens could see a move to the defensive side of the ball the Cardinals seem to like what he does on offense and look to use his size and skills as a running back / H-back to come out of the backfield and catch passes and get short yardage.

Other programs that continue to show interest are Ohio University, Central Michigan and Cincinnati.

Scout.com will continue to check with Jay in the coming weeks to see where he stands with any other offers and his visit with Ball State. Below are a few clips of Jay in action during a recent playoff game.
