Bloomington, Ind. – After welcoming in 14 recruiting targets last weekend, IU football's official visitor list isn't nearly as lengthy this time around.
But what the group lacks in quantity, it makes up for it with quality.
With IU's available scholarships beginning to dwindle, Coach Bill Lynch's staff will have two players on hand this weekend – Hargrave Military Academy defensive end Kyle Kozak and Columbus, Ohio, running back/cornerback Isaiah Pead.
Kozak is an athletic 6-5, 238-pound defensive end from Emmaus, Penn., who enrolled at Hargrave after spending his senior season at Pickerington (Ohio) Central H.S., where he helped his team to a runner-up finish in the 2006 Division II playoffs. He wowed many on-lookers at a recent workout by running a 4.5 in the 40, but the fact he's planning on enrolling at a Division I program in January has prevented many programs from getting involved late.
He's been making a series of officials this week, culminating in this weekend's visit to Bloomington. Among his other stops have been Cincinnati, UConn and Akron.
Pead, meanwhile, is a 5-11, 180-pounder who averaged more than 11 yards/carry this fall while rushing for 2,204 yards and 39 touchdowns and earning Ohio Division III Player of the Year honors. He helped lead Columbus' Eastmoor Academy to a 9-1 record while playing both running back and defensive back.
While he says programs are recruiting him to play running back, he is Scout's 34th-ranked cornerback and could be a candidate to play in the secondary in college if things don't work out on offense. Pead – who had six interceptions this fall - has track-caliber speed, evidenced by his self-reported 4.36 in the 40 and his sixth-place finish at the 2006 Ohio Division II state track meet in the 200-meters (:22.47).
Pead is also being recruited by Cincinnati, Pitt and West Virginia.
