Michigan Commitment Eyeing Terps?

Running back Mike Cox of Avon, CT, was a prospect the Maryland coaching staff discovered early and seemed to be very interested in this fall, before several other schools took notice – including Michigan, where he eventually made a verbal commitment. But with the Wolverines hiring a new coaching staff, Cox has been forced to re-examine his options. Could Maryland be one of them?

"If I don't [stay committed] to Michigan, Maryland would definitely be one I would look at," said Cox, a four-star prospect and the No. 27 running back in the nation.

"A couple of schools have been calling me since [Rodriguez was hired] and Maryland basically said, I think, they don't have any scholarships open right now but if I wanted to come they could maybe make something happen for me," he said.

Cox has already taken all of his official visits and will not be making any more. He's expected to receive a visit from Rodriguez in the near future and determine his plan shortly thereafter. He said he doesn't know much about the spread offense Rodriguez runs, but was impressed by how well WVU ran the ball under the head coach and still feels fairly confident about his decision.

Asked how he felt about Maryland when he was going through the recruiting process, he said, "I liked it a lot."
