Eric Stein Profile

One on One With Eric Stein

SM: Talk a little bit about the relationship between you and the Navy Coaching Staff.

ES: I have a pretty good relationship with the coaching staff. We stay in touch about once a week. They normally call to see how things are going. Actually one of the coaches came by my house last week to visit me. So we stay in touch quite a bit.

SM: So tell me, what do you like most about the Naval Academy?

ES: They have everything I want in football and education. My goal has always been to play football at the highest level possible, and to get the best education possible. So, the Naval Academy is a DI program that plays good football, and they also have one of the best educational opportunities in the country.

SM: What are your thoughts regarding the service commitment?

ES: I don't have any problems with it. If everything works out, I'd like to be a fighter pilot. I feel it would be an opportunity to do something that most people don't get to do. So, I don't have a problem at all with the commitment.

SM: You played multiple positions on the field in high school. What position has Navy been recruiting you for?

ES: Basically they have been recruiting me as an athlete because they want to get me on the field as fast as possible. But, primarily they want me to play on the defensive side of the ball for them. They've talking about safety or linebacker; they are not really sure yet.

SM: Talk a little bit about your style of play on the field, and what the Naval Academy can expect out of you, should you decide to join the Brotherhood?

ES: I have a nose for the ball, and I play really intense. I'm really competitive on the field; I hate losing. As a safety, I can read where the quarterback is going to throw the ball. On offense I can catch the football, and I can get a lot of yards after the catch. I'd basically give them everything that I have.

SM: So, how are you looking academically?

ES: I have a 4.0 weighted GPA. I scored a 1740 on my SAT.

With Signing Day just around the corner, will the Midshipmen be able to seal the deal on the Carpinteria Senior High star? Keep it locked with to find out.
