Stevens Sets New Decision Date

One of the few remaining recruiting stories worth watching out West has been the recruitment of Hamani Stevens. The highest rated offensive lineman uncommitted from California has a new, final top three and a new decision deadline: Signing Day...

Hemet (Calif.) lineman Hamani Stevens told last week, that he had narrowed his choices to three schools: Arizona State, BYU and Oregon.

Ten days later, and Stevens is still down to three schools, but Arizona State is no longer in the mix and now UCLA, where he was committed to earlier in the process, is back in.

Stevens decommitted just days after verballing to the Bruins and had all but eliminated UCLA, but after having head coach Rick Neuheisel in for an in-home, along with offensive line coach Bob Palcic, the Bruins are right back in the running for Stevens.

"I'm focusing now on UCLA, Oregon and BYU," said Stevens. "They're all running neck-and-neck. I was going to announce on Friday, but now I'm waiting till next Wednesday."

Stevens said that his Signing Day announcement will be around noon at his school.

So how did the Bruins get back into it?

"The coaches really had a good visit here," said Stevens. "Seven of their eight coaches have been in the NFL and Coach Palcic has coached a lot of great players. My family really liked what he had to say. They also like Coach Neuheisel a lot."

Stevens is one of the few prospects from the West Coast who's taken all five of his official visits, but on Saturday, he'll take an unofficial trip to UCLA.

"The coaches want me to come out on Saturday, go to the basketball game, and meet with them," said Stevens. "So I'm going to do that with my family."
