Lowndes Safety Holds Offer

Gerald Demps is a talented safety prospect at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia for the class of 2009. Demps and his Lowndes County teammates celebrated at 5A Georgia State title this past fall, and the Jr earned another accomplishment yesterday afternoon.

"My coach called me to his office yesterday and said that he had some big news. He told me that Auburn had offered me a scholarship. It was great news to hear," said Demps, a 6-foot-2, 200 pound athlete.

Demps claims to have 4.5 - 4.6 forty speed and feels that there are a few parts of his game that make him a standout player.

"I'm really good at reading coverages. I tackle pretty good. I'm good in man coverage but there's always room for improvement. My closing speed is probably the best part of my game. I think that's why Auburn offered a scholarship to me. They saw that I get to all of the plays."

Although there's an offer on the table for Demps, he's still keeping his options open.

"Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, and Florida State are the schools that are in my focus right now. I don't have a leader. These schools are all in the same place.

Demps also excels on the track and on the court.

"Last year I ran a 10.57 (handheld time) at Shaw (High School in Columbus, Ga) last year. I pulled my hamstring and had to sit out the rest of the track season. So far in Basketball I'm averaging between 7 and 10 points a game. I'm not sure exactly the amount of points per game though."

Location won't play a huge role when he signs the dotted line next February.

"Location won't be a huge deal. I just want to be in a reasonable distance from my family in case there's an emergency or anything. I've been to Arkansas before, and that was probably a little bit too far way."
