"I found out I fractured my ankle three weeks ago," said Philip Lutzenkirchen. "My ankle bothered me during basketball season, but I continued to play on it. I finally went to the doctor, and he told me it was fractured. I am rehabbing now and trying to get back to 100 percent."
Lutzenkirchen measured 6-3.5, 225-pounds at the Scott Kennedy CES combine. He timed a 4.75 forty, 4.12 shuttle and 7.09 three-cone.
"Troy State has offered me," he said. "It was exciting to receive my first offer. There have been a few other schools who have said they are going to offer. The main schools showing interest are Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Miami and Georgia, There are a lot of SEC and ACC schools showing interest. Stanford is the furthest school who is showing interest."
"I have been to Junior Day at Georgia Tech. I plan to attend Junior Days at Clemson and Vanderbilt as well. Stanford invited me to come out there, but I don't think I will make the trip."
When asked of the visit with the Yellow Jackets Lutzenkirchen said, "The visit was good. I liked it. We went to the basketball game and talked about how I fit in their scheme. They don't use tight ends, but would like to use me as a defensive end or wide receiver. We went over their academics as well."
"They told me straight up they don't use tight ends at all. They said they would like to play me on either side of the ball. I love that. It's close to home, and it's a fun environment."
Lutzenkirchen recorded 46 receptions for 497 yards and seven touchdowns during his junior season. He recorded 49 tackles, one interceptions, three pass deflections, a blocked punt and one touchdown on defense. He was named first team All-County.
He is aware of his strengths and what he hopes to improve during the off-season following rehab.
"I would say my strengths are my IQ for the game and definitely my athleticism," he said. "I definitely want to improve my blocking and overall fundamentals."
Lutzenkirchen does not list any favorites.
