South Haven's Goodwin Receiving Attention

After a junior season that brought on All-State and All-Conference honors, South Haven ATH Kelip Goodwin is receiving his share of recruiting attention. The athletic junior talked about his recent trip to Michigan State and more.

South Haven High School is not accustomed to having a ton of high level college prospects, but the Rams happen to have two in their 2009 class. QB Isiah Grimes and RB Kelip Goodwin.

Goodwin was an honorable mention All-State selection after rushing for nearly 900 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago. However, with his athleticism and build (6'2, 180), he projects better as a wide receiver or a safety at the next level. No matter what position he plays, it is looking like he will have his choice of schools.

"I'm being recruited by Iowa, Indiana, Stanford, Wisconsin and Duke," he said.

One more team getting in on him is Michigan State, where Goodwin headed with teammate Grimes this past weekend for the Spartans' junior day.

"I had a great time," he reported, "I got a chance to see all the facilities and talk to all the position coaches. They let me know that if I'm really trying to play for them I need to go to their camps and send all my information in to them."

As basketball finishes up for both Goodwin and Grimes, they will both have more time to focus on football recruiting and decide where they will head for combines and camps. They also can begin to narrow down their college choices...and just maybe, come to the same conclusion.

"Yeah, we would like to go the same school," Goodwin finished, "but if we don't, oh well, but it would be nice."
