SEC Offer For Roberts

Stephen Roberts is a football prospect at Starrs Mill HS in Fayetteville, Ga, that is caught between two defensive positions. At 6'3 and 195 pounds, with a very long frame, he plays much larger than his weight would indicate. He was very productive last fall and a school from the SEC has taken notice of his skills.

"Ole Miss offered me a few weeks ago," Stephen Roberts said. "They said that they wanted me to keep up the good work, and that they were excited about seeing me for their spring game. I'll be heading down there for that."

Two schools from the SEC are atop Robert's wish list.

"Ole Miss and Auburn are my top two right now. I'm looking at four schools. They're Auburn, UCF, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. Those four schools have been sending me the most stuff."

Roberts has played both outside linebacker and defensive end in high school. The schools that he has been in contact with are all split on where they want him to play, but he is personally more comfortable with his hand up.

"Some of the schools want me as a linebacker and some are talking about me as a defensive end. Defensive end is what I've played most during high school. They moved me to Outside Linebacker last year (‘07 season). I think that pass rushing is my specialty. I can run about a 4.6 (forty yard dash) and I have an explosive first step. I'm good as a d-lineman, but I think that I'm a better player at outside linebacker."

Last fall Roberts almost hit the century mark for total tackles. He feels that some extra bulk will take his game to new levels.

"Last season I had 97 tackles, and 7 or 8 sacks. My playing weight was between 200 and 205 (pounds). Before next season I want to get up to at least 220 pounds. With the extra size I think that it'll take my game to the next level. Next season I want at least 110 tackles, and at least 10 sacks."

Roberts has very long arms, and he claims to have a 6'7 wingspan. His arm length not only helps him at the point of contact on defense, but in blocking situations as well.

"I play a little tight end too. I'm mostly a blocking tight end. On goal line packages the coaching staff puts me in on Offense. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd rate my blocking at a 7. I'm probably one of the better blockers on the team. They'll probably do the same thing with me on offense next year."

Stephen Roberts is also a solid track athlete and has clocked some impressive times in multiple events.

"So far this season I've run a 16.1 in the 110 hurdles. In the 200 my best time has been a 24.2. I think that I can run in the low 23's (23 seconds) for the 200. I think that I can get down to that time by the end of the track season."
