La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat cornerback Sheldon Price (6-1, 165) is still waiting for the first scholarship offer to come in, but several schools have been corresponding with him.

"I'm hearing a lot from UCLA, California, Oregon, Arizona State, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Colorado," said Price. "They all said they were going to look at my film and after they see my film, I'll know if I'll get an offer."

One place that Price would love to get an offer from is UCLA, the school he grew up rooting for and the same place his parents went. "My mom, my dad and my grandfather all went to UCLA," said Price. "I've been going to games at UCLA since I was a kid."

Price's father, Dennis, played for the Bruins, and started each year he played at UCLA from 1984-1987. Following his career at UCLA, the older Price played in the NFL for the Raiders and the Jets.

"You could say that (it's my dream school)," said Price. "I'd love to get an offer from them. I've talked with Coach (DeWayne) Walker the most from there. I'm planning to go to practice on Friday. But if they offered, I'm not sure I'd commit right away. I kind of want to go through the whole process."

That process will include unofficial visits and camps at a myriad of schools. "I'm planning to go to Arizona State, Cal and Colorado and UCLA too for their Junior Day," said Price. "I'm probably going to camp at UCLA and Cal and possibly Colorado. I want to see a few different schools and camp at some different places to get a good idea of things."

Price said that while UCLA is his favorite, he's open to every school recruiting him, which is why he's not in a rush to make a decision. That said, he'd like to have a decision made by fall, if possible. "I'd like to have committed by the time we start the season so I can just play football and go to school and not have to worry about it," said Price. "That's why I'm taking some of these trips."

When considering schools, Price said a few factors will play a role in his decision. "The academics first of all will be a big part of it," said Price. "Then I want to play in a big conference against good competition. And how I fit into the school's defensive scheme, too."

Price said academically he's in fine shape and will have no issues qualifying. In 2007, Price was a First Team all-Serra League pick, a Second Team all-San Gabriel Valley selection and was named Team Back of the Year. He had 32 tackles, 19 breakups and three interceptions in 2007.
