Renfrow, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound jumbo athlete from Philadelphia (Pa.) Penn Charter, has also received scholarship offers from Connecticut, Duke, Stanford, Temple, and West Virginia.
"I was surprised by the [UNC] offer," Renfrow said. "I was just coming over there to get a good workout in, because I heard Coach Blake was one of the best out there for D-linemen. I had heard that pro guys pay to get his workout, so I was going there to get what the pros get."
Receiving an offer from UNC has clearly affected Renfrow's school list.
"It's shifting to UNC, Duke and UConn," Renfrow said. "It's hard to say [if I have a leader], but UNC is so attractive and is definitely sticking out.
"UNC and Duke are definitely great academic schools. [They] play in the ACC – a great football conference. An opportunity to work with Coach Blake is an opportunity within itself – NFL quality training that I get for four-five years.
"And UConn: Big East Champions last year – that definitely sticks out – and then one of my former teammates is a middle linebacker there – that definitely helps, too."
Renfrow isn't sure when he'll make a verbal commitment.
"I'd say I'll be making one in the near future," Renfrow said. "I've been talking it over with my parents and they agree with the same three that I've said. We just want to let it sit for a little bit, think about it for a little bit, and we're going to make the decision when we're ready."
Accompanied by this family, Renfrow arrived in Chapel Hill on Monday morning. During the afternoon session, he worked under Blake with the defensive linemen. He then worked out with Steve Hagen and the tight ends during the night sessions.
On Tuesday, Renfrow unofficially visited Duke, where he was offered a scholarship by the Blue Devils' coaching staff.
Renfrow returned to UNC Wednesday morning where he was taken to the side for an individual workout with Blake.
"They said they wanted to see how I moved," Renfrow said. "They asked me where I was looking and who I had offers from."
Renfrow spent the rest of his Chapel Hill stay touring the campus and facilities.
UNC, like all the other schools that have offered, is recruiting Renfrow as a defensive end.
As a junior, Renfrow recorded 56 tackles and eight sacks on defense.
