Andrew Carter is one of the top two-way lineman in the state for 2009. Rated as the 25th best tackle this year, Carter's recruitment has been a slow and steady process. Carter told NoleDigest that he's approaching 20 offers now and that he's been busy taking visits to some of the schools that he's considering.
"I currently have 16 offers right now," said Carter. "The most recent offers I have are from Mississippi State, Michigan State and Maryland. In June I visited the Florida schools that have offered me; FSU, USF, Miami and UCF. All were awesome! I have also visited South Carolina which was great and in the past I visited Auburn and Georgia."
Andrew is in Florida State's back yard, making the Seminoles one of the favorite schools in his recruitment. Andrew has been to Florida State several times, and says that he has a good relationship with the coaches.
"I have spoken with Coaches Fisher and Trickett," explained Carter. "I actually just received a little note from Coach Trickett the other day. We have a good relationship, everyone's been great, and there are a lot of great schools with so much to offer. I've been to FSU a bunch of times, the most recent visit was with my parents. I'll probably go back soon. I really like it there because they win and the coaches are great."
Andrew's busy June didn't end his visit schedule for the summer. Up next is a trip up north to visit some Big 10 schools. Michigan is a school that some insiders feel is beginning to make a push, and Carter addressed that as well.
"I've been working full time and participating in football workouts, but I'll be visiting Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan and Michigan State next week," said Andrew. "Michigan is a school I like because they have a great history and they put a lot of players into the NFL. I'll know more about them at the end of the week."
The last time NoleDigest spoke to Andrew he told us that he was planning on making his announcement when Leon plays their big rival Lincoln. As of right now it looks like plans for that may be changing.
"Right now I may be making my decision prior to the game," said Carter. "I'm probably going to be trimming my list down soon so we'll see what happens."
Andrew's recruitment looks as though it may be nearing an end within the next few months. The visits are important as he'll be trimming his list in the near future. As it stands right now the Seminoles are in good standing and have done nothing to hinder their position as a favorite. Stay tuned to NoleDigest as we track Andrew's recruitment, as well as the rest of Florida State's targets for 2009.
