Danser plans trip to Washington

The Huskies have been focused on bringing in at least two offensive tackles this year and one of the top candidates on their board is Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose) OT Kevin Danser. The big man from northern California said he has a great relationship with the Washington coaches and he plans to take an unofficial trip to Montlake in two weeks to check things out...

"Things have been going great this summer so far," Danser told Dawgman.com. "We just started practice this week and we're just doing our install of the offense and defense and we're doing conditioning as well.

"We don't start two-a-days until the middle of August, but we're in helmets and we are just trying to get used to working as a team again and stuff like that."

Danser has been hard at work this summer in the weight room, increasing his bench press while also dropping a few pounds.

"I wanted to get leaner and faster and stronger," Danser said. "I've dropped about 10 pounds so far and I'm down to 285, which is perfect for me.

"We don't max out on lifts, but I can do 225 about 10 times on the bench and I can do 405 about five times on the squat. It's more about flexibility training and endurance more than anything."

On the recruiting front, Danser said he's been in touch with the Washington coaches quite a bit over the past few months while also attending two Pac 10 camps.

"I went to the Cal and UCLA camps and those were a lot of fun," Danser said. "I felt I did pretty well and since both of them are recruiting me, that really boosted my confidence.

"I've been talking with coach (Tim) Lappano and coach (Mike) Denbrock from Washington a lot too. They wanted me to come up for a visit before the season and I'm heading up there next weekend (August 1st - 3rd)."

Danser said he's never been to Seattle before and he's looking forward to seeing the Emerald City as well as finding out more about Washington's program.

"I'm really excited to get up there," Danser said. "I've never been up there before, but I hear it is really beautiful up there and Austyn (Carta-Samuels) told me they have great facilities at the school.

"I don't know a lot about their program, other than what the coaches have told me. They talked about their offense and what they like to run, how they train and they told me about some of the players they have up there.

"That's really where this visit will help me because I really want to know the program and get a feel for how things are up there."

Besides his offer from the Huskies, Danser also has offers from Arizona and Harvard and he's hearing quite a bit from schools like Oregon, Oregon State, Colorado and Northwestern.

Danser said he plans to take his time and he expcest to take his visits after his season concludes before he'll be ready to make a decision.
