Conner Vernon Commits To Duke

The commitment train continued to roll on Tuesday as Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep receiver Conner Vernon added his name to the growing list of players verbally committing to Duke.

"I called the coaches this afternoon and it just kind of happened," said Conner Vernon. "They were really excited, and I'm excited as well. At the end of the day I felt comfortable with the coaches and there was no way I could beat the kind of opportunities for education."

Vernon, who picked the Blue Devils over offers from Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and Troy, said his decision was never in doubt, and he's glad to put the recruiting process behind him.

"At the end of the day Duke was always on top, and I know it's the right decision. We're going to turn things around. All the coaches and players were great, and I'm excited."

Vernon had 38 catches for 638 yards and 5 TD's for Gulliver Prep as a junior. He describes himself as a solid receiver with good hands and route running technique.

"My hands and route running are definitely my strength, but I have enough speed so I can separate and make my routes count."
