Number 19 Is Russ Cockrell

Commitments continue to roll into Durham on Wednesday as another in-state prospect commits. This time it's Charlotte (N.C.) Latin defensive back Russ Cockrell.

The 6-foot-0, 175lbs defensive back prospect called the coaches on Wednesday afternoon to offer his verbal commitment.

Cockrell becomes the program's 19th commitment from the class of 2009. He chose the Duke offer over Virginia (offer), North Carolina, and others.

"I called the coaches and had a chance to tell Coach Cutcliffe I was committing," said Cockrell. "He was very excited it seemed like.

Cutcliffe's excitement is becoming infectious among his future players and Blue Devil fans alike as a wave of recruiting activity has washed over the program this week with Cockrell being the latest swell.

"[Coach Cutcliffe] has the program heading in the right direction. I had a chance to meet him at the Junior Day and both he and the entire staff were great. They are the reason I'm going to Duke."

Cockrell enters Duke listed as an athlete, and will define his role - either offensive or defensive upon arriving on campus.
