Broken Arrow (Okla.) standout Alvin Bailey has decided to follow in his father's footsteps.
Well, sort of – seeing as how his dad use to lace up the high tops and dribble a basketball, but the younger Bailey puts on the cleats and pads and looks to mash somebody.
Bailey (6-5, 300), whose dad of the same name was a walk-on for the Razorbacks basketball team back in 1977, has decided he will play football for the University of Arkansas.
"I just called (Razorback assistant) Coach Garrick) McGee and told him I want to be a Razorback," Bailey said. "I am real excited about it."
Both Baileys are excited about the decision.
"Yes, he did play for the Razorbacks, but he didn't try and push me one or the other," the younger Bailey said. "We talked about it a little bit. He just let me make my own decision, but he's pretty happy about it."
Bailey becomes the 11th commitment of the 2009 class to publicly declare he will sign with the Razorbacks.
He had offers from Arkansas, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa State and Michigan State.
"I think I am very aggressive and am strong both in the passing and running game," Bailey said. "But I need to work on my footwork, continue to work on my technique and just get stronger."
Bailey, who bench presses over 400 pounds and squats 590, committed after getting a chance to meet with the UA coaches in Fayetteville on an unofficial two Fridays ago.
"It went really well, I got a chance to meet with all the coaches and look over everything and it just made me certain that is where I wanted to go," Bailey said. "I have always loved the Razorbacks and it feels right."
Bailey joins Fayetteville's Colby Berna (6-4, 275) and Kingwood (Texas) High's Travis Swanson (6-5, 288) and 2008 signee Anthony Oden (6-8, 295) now at Hargrave Military Academy as 2009 offensive line commits for the Razorbacks.
Arkansas also has also have a verbal pledge from 2010 offensive lineman Cam Feldt (6-4, 280) of Point Pilot, Texas.
