Phoenix (Az.) Brophy Prep opened up the 2008 season with a nice win last night over visiting Bishop Gorman from Las Vegas. Star defensive end Trent Murphy from Brophy had a spectacular opener, recording three sacks and blocking a PAT.
Murphy (6-5 235) followed up that great performance last night by deciding on where he wanted to play his college football.
He sent Scout.com a text message just moments ago that read, "I just committed to Stanford."
We followed that up with a phone interview with Trent to give Stanford fans the details on why he committed today.
He explains, "I went out and visited the campus this suumer and I pretty much knew I wanted to go there but I just had not put it out in the open yet."
He continues, "Coach Harbaugh emailed me this morning to congratulate me on my game and I decided to go ahead and make my intentions known."
Murphy committed to Harbaugh and then the Stanford head man put him on the phone with the rest of the staff. Murphy says, "I talked to pretty much all of the coaches and they were all excited."
Trent says that he really likes the Cardinal staff and that was one of the main factors in him committing but is was one member of the staff that really impressed Murphy. "I really like Coach Durkin. He came out in the spring and saw me and he is really excited about me committing."
With several other Pac 10 offers including Arizona and Arizona State and Colorado also offering Trent, is he going to consider any other schools? "I don't see why I would," Murphy tells us. "I know I want to go to Stanford and that is the only official visit I will take."
